B.C. celebrates parks day while search and rescue volunteers preach trip planning

SAR groups trying to reduce the 1500 calls for help they receive each year in the province

B.C. celebrated the annual national Parks Day with enthusiasm at several provincial parks, which held scavenger hunts, fishing and nature walks, while search and rescue volunteers used the opportunity to preach safety in the province’s wild spaces.

“We’re trying to bring down the number of search and rescue call outs in the province,” said Sandra Riches with Adventure Smart. “We have over 1,500 just in B.C. every year.”
