Road Safety for August Long Weekend and Caution for Rave Attendees
Teamwork Media TV Inc. (RCMP) – West Kootenay Traffic Services were lighting up the highways this August long weekend in the Kootenay Boundary region. Police saw the usual increased volume of traffic and were targeting aggressive drivers and impaired drivers. Traffic Services police officers handed out 12 excessive speeding tickets over the weekend with the vehicles impounded for seven days and gave out in excess of 50 speeding tickets. 8 impaired by drug or alcohol drivers were removed from the roads. 12 illegal drug seizures were made. Thankfully there were no serious crashed in our area.
Immediately following the long weekend, police will be busy as the Shambhala Music Festival brings more than 12,000 people to the area. Last year saw more than 70 excessive speed tickets and vehicle impounds in the days surrounding Shambhala in addition to numerous drug possession and drug trafficking charges.
We will be working hard to keep our roads safe. So please remember to buckle up, keep your eyes on the road, drive within the speed limit, don’t drive while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and keep your mind on your driving.
