TRAVEL ALERT UPDATED – Temporary traffic signal system to be installed on the SR 25/Columbia River Bridge at Northport

TRAVEL ALERT – Northport Washington USA – A major bridge that links Trail BC/Rossland BC and Spokane Washington will be causing some road delays after Inspections by Washington State Department of Transportation bridge engineers revealed extensive corrosion on the State Route 25 bridge that crosses the Columbia River at Northport

WSDOT crews will install a temporary traffic signal system on the SR 25/Columbia River Bridge at Northport in Stevens County (MP 114), about 5 miles south of the Canadian border.  The signal will allow single-lane, alternating traffic, across the 1,500 foot long structure.  Drivers should expect short delays.

In addition, crews will make adjustments to the counter balance weights at the bridge ends.

When the signal system is activated, late Saturday or early Sunday, traffic will be controlled without the need for staffed flagging crews.  The exact time of activation is not yet known.

With signalized control, and the revised counter balance, the current “one truck at a time” restriction will be lifted.  However, the bridge will remain restricted to legal loads only.  No overweight or oversize loads will be allowed until further notice.
