Nelson Police are warning the public to be vigilant about a new fraud that is targeting Nelson area residents utilizing online classified ads.
Respondents to ads for employment, have been receiving fake checks in the mail. Once the cheque is obtained, victims of this fraud are requested to electronically forward large sums of money to other people in other Cities.
There have been a great number of incidents involving the same fraud targeting Nelsonites within the last 2 weeks. Nelson Police are asking anyone who receives a cheque in the mail for services to be rendered, and directions to forward all or part of the monies to third parties to be mindful of this scam and alert the Canadian anti-fraud center or the Nelson Police Department.
