Work related fatality at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort

On March 16, 2017 the Golden-Field RCMP were advised by the BC Coroner’s Service that there had been a fatality at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, in Golden, BC.

At this time, police can confirm that a 41 year-old male from Golden died as a result of an injury sustained while working at one of the resorts lifts.

WorkSafeBC has been notified and will be investigating the incident along with the BC Coroner’s Service.

The Golden-Field RCMP will continue to provide any investigational assistance requested.

Backcountry Avalanche near Golden

 

On March 12, 2017 just before 4:00 pm, the Golden-Field RCMP were notified that an avalanche had been triggered on T3, out of bounds from the ski resort, near Golden, BC, and that one person was possibly missing.

Police immediately activated Golden & District Search & Rescue, who began mobilizing while police continued to make contact with the initial caller.

At approximately 4:00 pm, police were able to speak with the caller who was able to confirm that he had located his friend and was not in need of rescue or medical attention and, as such, GADSAR was stood down.

Back country enthusiasts, be it mechanized or non-mechanized users, are asked to be aware of avalanche and weather condition for their area and to ensure that they check current avalanche conditions at avalanche.ca prior to participating in these outdoor activities.
