Kootenay Lake Osprey 2000 Ferry breaks down causes oil leak into Kootenay Lake

The Osprey Ferry experienced a mechanical problemĀ at approximately 9:00 am this morning which has caused a large amount of what TMTV News has been told is gear oil to leak into Kootenay Lake at the Balfour Ferry Landing.

TMTV NEWS Balfour BC – The ferry is currently out of service and the lower capacity Balfour Ferry has taken it’s place.


400 L of gear oil leaks into Kootenay Lake, B.C.

The amount of oil that has been spilled into Kootenay Lake is not known at this time. Balfour Fire Department is on scene and BC Ministry of Environment has been notified.

Ferry Service Interruption

Highway 3A between Castlegar and Creston Both directions – Kootenay Lake Ferry Both directions – Ferry Service Interruption at Kootenay Lake starting Saturday, April 15 at 9:30 am through to Sunday, April 30th 2:30 pm.
