Kaslo BC landslide leads to evacuation of 47 homes

The slide occurred approximately 350 metres above Zwicky Road which leads from Kaslo to New Denver.

Geotechnical experts are still assessing the landslide above Zwicky Road in Kaslo.

Another public meeting will be held this evening at the Kaslo Royal Canadian Legion Hall at 403 5th Street in Kaslo at 6pm to provide a further update to residents.

There has been no change to the Evacuation Order which remains in place.

All residents who have not already checked in with the reception centre are encouraged to do so. The reception centre is located at the Kaslo Royal Canadian Legion Hall, and will be open until 8 pm tonight.

The RDCK will keep the public updated as more information becomes available.

Kaslo Landslide Being Assessed

RDCK Emergency Staff and geotechnical experts have conducted a fly over of the landslide above Zwicky Road in Kaslo and are currently on the slope assessing the slide.

There has been no change to the Evacuation Order which remains in place.

The RDCK will keep the public updated as more information becomes available.

Kaslo BC landslide leads to evacuation of 47 homes

Officials declared a state of emergency in Kaslo early this morning and have ordered the evacuation of 47 homes due to a landslide.

No damage and this is precautionary says the RDCK, In the last few weeks we have had some landslides in the area.

Geotechnical assessments are planned for Today (Tuesday April 18).

Evacuation Order in Kaslo Remains In Place

The State of Local Emergency and Evacuation Order in Kaslo following a landslide above Zwicky Road remains in place.

No houses have been damaged in the landslide. The evacuation order area remains the same.

RDCK Emergency staff and a geotechnical engineer will be conducting a helicopter flight this morning to assess the landslide.

A public meeting will be held this afternoon at the Kaslo Royal Canadian Legion Hall at 1 pm. RDCK Emergency staff, RCMP, and provincial staff will be providing an update to residents on the expected duration of the evacuation order.
