Quebec woman fatality injured in hiking fall in Valhalla Provincial Park near Winlaw BC

TMTV.NET (RCMP RELEASE) – On Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at approximately 2:51 pm, the Slocan Lake RCMP responded to a report of a 23 year old female hiker who had fallen approximately 100 feet down a cliff. The victim had been hiking with two friends at Gimli Peak, located in the Valhalla Provincial Park near Winlaw, BC. One witness scaled down the cliff to render assistance while the other witness hiked 2.5 hours to contact emergency services for assistance.

Emergency Health Services (EHS) activated Search and Rescue upon being contacted by the witness. Air Ambulance along with two Search and Rescue helicopters were dispatched to the location. The victim was located deceased from the fall.

The Slocan Lake RCMP continues to assist the BC Coroners Service with their investigation into the woman’s death.
