WILDFIRE SOUTH OF HARROP BC IN THE WEST KOOTENAY – Other new fires reported in southeast BC

A Wildfire is burning east of Nelson BC, south of Harrop BC on the West arm of Kootenay Lake, a structure fire in the Bonnington Falls area and a new fire in Kokanee Glacier Provincial Park in Desmund Creek.

BC Wildfire crews completed an aerial inspection at 6:00 am today.  The fire does not appear to have grown overnight and remains at approximately 18 hectares in size.

At this point, BC Wildfire crews will not be fighting the fire due to safety issues for firefighters.  The plan is to extinguish the fire once it moves into a safer location.  BC Wildfire will continue to monitor the situation throughout the day.

At the present moment, although there is considerable amount of smoke visible in the area, there is no imminent threat to any structures or communities.

MAP ABOVE SHOWS NEW FIRES AS OF 12 NOON FRIDAY JULY 28…A Wildfire is burning south of Harrop BC on the West arm of Kootenay Lake and is estimated at 18HA, a stucture fire in the Bonnington Falls area and a new wildfire has also been reported in Kokanee Glacier Provincial Park an is located in Desmund Creek. Bonnington BC Fire Structure

Earlier this morning (Friday July 28) a home at 3762 Thompson Rd, Bonnington was lost to a structure fire.

Currently there are 2 BC Wildfire helicopters, 3 RDCK fire departments with 8 fire apparatus, and 2 BC Wildfire crews are fighting the fire to prevent it from spreading as a wildfire.

At the moment, the fire is contained to the structure and there is currently no need for evacuations.

The fire was noticed at 4PM Thursday afternoon. The location is close to 10kl south of Harrop/Proctor BC at an elevation of 6500 feet and is now approximately 18 HA in size.

RDCK INFO FROM FACEBOOK — WILDFIRE NEAR HARROP BEING FOUGHT BY BC WILDFIRE SERVICES


The RDCK Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) has been activated to monitor a wildfire which is currently being fought by the BC Wildfire Service.

The fire is approximately 20 hectares in size. Approximate location is shown in map below.

At the present moment, although there is considerable amount of smoke visible in the area, there is no imminent threat to any structures or communities.

The RDCK EOC will continue to monitor this fire situation and will provide an update at 10:00am tomorrow morning, unless the incident escalates and requires further updates.
