THE SHOW GOES ON! The party is back on at the Shambhala Music Festival as organizers have told people they can stay. Evacuation Alert still in effect.
Statement posted on Shambhala website…
This past week has been one of the most challenging of our careers. Acting in the interest of public safety of 15,000 people is no small task. We have been constantly consulting with government officials about how to proceed since the McCormick Creek fire started on the opening day of our event, and as the fire developed.
The early closure decision was made on the advice of these local officials. It was not an easy decision for us to make on any level. We were looking at a very different situation when we made the early closure call yesterday. Yesterday, we were facing high winds and erratic behaviour of the fire.
Today is a much different story. We have damp, cool weather that has downgraded the threat of the fire moving toward the Salmo River Ranch property.
After hours of meetings and consultation this morning, the RDCK, other local government and a fire behavioural analyst, we been have been approved for Shambhala Music Festival to remain open for our final night.
We invite all our guests to stay and celebrate with us for the final night of our 20th Annual Shambhala Music Festival. Music acts might not continue as scheduled, but we will have a new schedule for this evening. Stay tuned for updates.
We are selling Sunday tickets $180 incl. tax at the gate. Those who have already been issued a wristband will be allowed re-entry at the gate.
This week has been an emotional roller coaster for us all, and we’re happy we can end SHAMBHALA 20 on this very positive note with you.
WE LOVE YOU SO MUCH.
