It may not look like it out your window right now but spring is only a few weeks away – and we are still working towards getting recreational cannabis seed in the ground this May. Really. 🙂
The Kootenay Outdoor Producer Co-op is multi-stakeholder cooperative being formed in the Central Kootenay region to produce organic outdoor cannabis on underutilized agricultural land. A Central Facility will not only house our nursery and post harvest production, but will also be used to process extracts, oils, edibles and even possibly textiles.
Now that the proposed regulations, not only allow for outdoor production and our co-op business model, but also include additional licensing options for micro cultivators, micro processors, and hemp; we think it is time to tell a bigger audience what we are all about and how they can participate.
To that end we are hosting a Groundbreaking Public Meeting – the afternoon of Saturday Feb 17th at the Prestige Hotel in Nelson – and we invite all RDCK residents to attend.
The focus of the event will be on informing people on how they can participate in this new industry under the umbrella of the Co-op. We will be discussing: opportunities for Land Owners and Investors, how we will work with Micro Cultivators and Micro Processors, as well as our quest for Local Seed.
We will also be hosting a mini Job Fair where we will be detailing the many employment opportunities that will be provided by the Co-op, as well as posting positions in: management, growing and general labour that we hope to hire this spring.
And we will of course be updating everyone on the happenings of the last year, where we stand now in regards to the regulations, and what we propose for the co-op’s future.
You may also find out some exciting news about a possible Central Facility for the Co-op, so make sure you mark Saturday Feb 17th on your calendar.
Once again, we invite you to…tell a friend…bring a neighbour…join a community!
Thanks for spreading the word! Kootenay Outdoor Producer Co-op
